Nuclear fuel recycling
PNTL ships used nuclear fuel, vitrified high-level waste and mixed oxide (MOX) fuel for Japanese electric utilities. The utilities have commercial contracts with BNFL ( United Kingdom) and Cogema (France) to process used fuel, condition the separated waste and manufacture fresh MOX fuel.

HEU Management
PNTL ships Materials Test Reactor (MTR) used fuel from Japan and Europe to the United States. Used fuel from research reactors around the world that use Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU) is being shipped to the United States as part of a federal anti-proliferation programme.
Swords into Ploughshares
PNTL undertook a shipment of plutonium from the United States to France as part of the U.S. – Russian programme to dispose of surplus nuclear weapons. In 2005, PNTL will ship the MOX fuel manufactured from the plutonium to the United States where it will be burnt in a nuclear reactor to generate electricity.
